A Glimpse At The Built For Man 2012-13 Fall/Winter Preview cont’d

Built for Man, Fall/Winter 2012-13 preview, Fashion Show, Leather PantsTwenty-four hours have now passed since Built For Man premiered their 2012-13 Fall/Winter Collection to a room packed full of chic Seattleites. The response has been overwhelmingly supportive. The venue: Melrose Market Studios in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle; A beautiful urban event space, with it’s exposed brick and open floor plan it was the ideal venue to compliment the rugged and animalistic tone of this years collection. The music: an eclectic mix of rock and punk rock classics. The models: both masculine and sensual, captured the essence of the wolf. The after-party: (held at La Spiga) a perfect marriage of delectable food, flowing drinks, and exquisite company. Most importantly, the fashion: the Built For Man collection spoke for itself, and it spoke loudly. It was more like a shout really. A shout, that I predict, will continue to echo throughout 2012.

As predicted, the leather pants stole the show. I had watched as Francisco Hernandez (Built For Man Creative Director) gleefully tore open the box containing these prized leather pants less than 36 hours earlier. After seeing them on the runway, I fully understood his excitement, and cannot imagine the collection being shown without them. I speak with conviction when I say: every man should own a pair of these pants. They truly are a work of art.

The show truly seemed to go off without a hitch. The months of preparations certainly paid off, and I was proud to have been a part of this amazing event. The hour’s prior, on the other hand, were predictably stressful. A last minute cancellation from a make-up artist and a car-accident on Pine Street made for an intense drugstore run for myself. I felt like I was on an episode of Supermarket Sweep as I ran down the aisles of Bartell Drugs in my Bodycon mini dress and high heels gathering makeup that seemed “manly”. In the end, our handsome models only needed a dab of lip balm, which our stylist Dana blissfully applied to their lips. I was happy to be working front-of-the-house, as I’m certain there were some tense moments in back. With 18 models showing 60 looks there’s bound to be some confusion, no matter how organized you are. Mostly, I was happy to have been able to witness the show first-hand. It was truly an awe-inspiring sight as each statuesque model made his way down the runway, styled to the T in Built For Man.  The night ended with a gracious toast from Francisco, thanking his supporters and those who contributed to the success of the show, and of course, to another momentous year in fashion for Built For Man!
